The "unforseen" gap has been forseen by the line pilots for month, as they are the poor sods who have to pick up the pieces of a managment team who can't see past next weekend.
What the gap is not is temporary. I can't see any way on earth they can recruit enough people quickly enough (and train them, even if they can find people desperate enough to join) to solve the problem before the pilots they already have start to hit 100 hours in 28 days (I'm already there, without any factoring) and 900 in a year.
