I'm a professional (classroom) instructor, although not in aviation. I've also been force-fed internal business updates via various "modern" education methods, such as CBTs, web lectures, video presentations and whatnot. And we're experimenting with Instructor-Led Online, blended learning, mixed "live" and "online" classrooms and various other delivery methods.
Call me old-fashioned, but I found that the only way I can effectively and efficiently learn something is if the information comes to me at a speed with which I can process the information, without falling asleep. And right now there's only two methods that effectively do that for me:
- Reading a book myself, so that I can set my own pace.
- A classroom course with a live instructor, who can see if I'm frowning, not catching up, or falling asleep, and do something about it.
The whole PPL course would easily be 40 hours of video, if not significantly more. I'd die of boredom before I would even be halfway through. A good-looking video presenter might help me stay awake a little longer, but probably distract me instead of helping the education process.
