It seems that the majority of non NATS staffed airports have done the sensible thing and have been training up their own staff, (usually ATCAs), to be in place for impending retirements etc.
Additionally, SERCO have a rolling training scheme in place for existing and forthcoming projects.
At the remainder of units (like mine
), management resort to crisis management when they suddenly realise that 5 atcos will be retiring within the next 3 years, there is a severe shortage of experienced fully qualified atcos, and they haven't bothered to implement a local training scheme to compensate.
