On an xp machine, navigate your way to device manager - to do so, click on start/then right click my computer and select manage from the dialog box that opens up and in the new window click on device manager.
Then a list of peripherals attached to your laptop will appear. In xp, any device with no driver installed will appear with an exclamation mark in a yellow circle next to it. Click on any such device and in the driver tab, click update driver automatically.
Windows will search for and install a driver as required and you'll be set.
This is not an infallible method, but should get you up & going for the majority of drivers. Anything left over, you can get from the manufacturers websites.
