I have a similar problem with a Dell that is about 4 years old. I took it to a local computer shop who told me that they are pretty certain that it is a problem with the mother board. It can be fixed for less than the cost of replacing your computer, but is not a cheap fix by any means. As it doesn't affect the performance of my computer I have decided to live with it for now.
