FAAA Jetstar News

Short Term Flight Attendants
&
Casuals

Attn Members,

Most of you will be aware that last week Jetstar announced an intention to engage temporary flight attendants, some of whom may be commencing next month. Jetstar has held a preliminary meeting with the FAAA to discuss their proposal and we are able to confirm the following:

- Over the next two months Jetstar may recruit a number of flight attendants
from Strategic Aviation on a short term basis to assist with covering flying over the busy summer period.

- The Company has agreed that the crew employed on a short term basis
to cover the holiday period will be used on a “Last call basis”. Which means that they will not be allocated work until all JQ and TJQ available have been exhausted.

- Going forward Jetstar may engage casual Flight Attendants on an ongoing
basis, either directly employed by the Group or through a labour contractor.

While in principle the FAAA is not opposed to the use of casuals in circumstances where their presence improves roster stability, fatigue levels, and day off bidding for existing crew, we must be satisfied and ensure that the process provides fair and reasonable outcomes for all crew involved.

The company has agreed to further discussions on this important matter.

We will of course keep members updated on any further developments in this regard.
