If we don't think we are overpaid then we have nothing to be ashamed of by having people know what the housing is. If we think it is something that should be kept secret then perhaps that is more worrying because in the back of our minds we know it is because it is a lot of money.
geh065, if you are a pilot I suggest you don't change professions. Your view that if we think it is fine then it will be: is naive in the extreme. As much as we despise them; politicians and journos know that what matters is PERCEPTION. For example, since the financial crisis most people think bankers are all overpayed. Is this true? Partially, but there are a few who actually do earn their money and others who aren't paid as much as we would believe. But this is irrelevant, what matters is perception. Forces that would aim to reduce our conditions will use this public information in the future. They fully understand that if they can get the public to perceive that we are overpaid, then half the battle is won. We need to learn the same lesson and think before we post what may seem like innocuous information on a public forum.
