Well, I spent this week in Gran Canaria and I had a wonderful time!
The island has a lot to offer, not just the hordes of drunks and/or sunburnt in Playa del Ingles. For example, there's the nice little airfield El Berriel (GCLB) with the Real Aeroclub de Gran Canaria. Flying can be tricky there due to a complicated wind system around it, but it's definitely worth a try!
