OKay, time for another clue!
(No one is close geographically yet. It's not Latin America, but it has some close ties.)
The runway is a little over 2700m in length (asphalt). It had international sked services in the 60's and up to the mid 70's. None since, but used sporadically for large (heavy) cargo flights and even occasional chartered pax flights into the country, as the airport in the Capital has a much shorter runway.
If no joy in the next 12 hours or so, I'll post a google earth pic.
