how about "fish runs"?
although most are multi-engine operators, i was told quite some time ago that there's a 172 flying for this kind of job
or maybe some other charter company that uses a 172.
i'll bet they would be willing to "work" even without "pay"... they do have a CPL/IR license

Running fish is now the hot option for building time and earning a little money at the same time. I don't know of any 172s being used for this. The payload/range isn't very good. The big trick is getting a foot in the door. You really need to know somebody within the operation to get a job there.
