If you're on Windows, I can recommend Google's
Picasa software and library service. The software is good for archiving pics and doing basic tweaking (colours etc.), and you can upload to the library account directly from the program. From the library website, you can generate image-only URLs for embedding at different sizes e.g. this is just 144 pixels wide:
