Sounds like it'll definitely be worth a day out! May even stop off at a couple of strips around the Cotswolds, I've always enjoyed driving around that part of the country and I'm sure flying will be even better. I've just discovered on the airport website that there is actually a bus which stops 900m from the terminal and runs to either Cheltenham or Gloucester, so that seems like a good option.
