Forgive me for asking,

I am aware that there can be cases where it is a legitimate question, and perhaps this is one such question, so no offence intended.

But why is it always a question of "time to command", doesn´t anybody want to just enjoy the job until it is "their time" for an upgrade.

Over the last 5-8 years, we have seen good times with short time to command in many companies, however, this is not the case at the moment and many people would actually jump at the chance to even have a flying job, or are pilots actually still only applying for a job with short upgrade prospects.
Even a short time to command right now, may not actually work out that way in the end, who knows what this industry is like in 1-2 years.
Granted, the ambulance flying may not be affected in the same way as the rest of the industry.

In any case, if you haven´t been there yet (in the command seat), trust me, you may just be disappointed once you get there, it isn´t that different from the first officer position, unless you are a control freak or you have a big ego to cater for.

Yes, the Captain is ultimately responsible or "in charge" if you like, but other than that your duties are essentially the same as the F/O´s, and I believe that all should work together and no one in the crew should need to perceive you as the big captain. (other that yourself, if you need to)

Maybe it is just a question of "status" or money or want for respect, who knows.

All in all, I think this sounds like a great job, whether you are starting out or whether you are in search of a job for other reasons. (The Kingair is great fun)

Best regards,
