Exactly FF, that is your choice - and I'm not criticising it. I'm just making a general point that there is a choice. Incidentally, the airline I use provide me with a substantially better all-round service (including FREE allocated seating) for a fare which is generally only between 10 and 20 Euros higher than the RYR fare. For me (my choice), that's well worth the extra driving distance and car costs (about 25 Euros).
Given your circumstances, I'd gladly pay the extra and drive the extra miles- I think most people would too.
My point was that large numbers of people have the same choice I have- 200 euros with FR or 1200 euros with someone like KLM or BA, in the most extreme (but not uncommon) cases.
For most people, at some point, the cost differential for all intents and purposes removes any element of choice, or makes it "Fly lo-co or don't fly at all!"
