There's ALWAYS a choice. RYR operate out of my local airport (15 minute drive), but I choose to drive 70 minutes to an alternative airport so that I may have the pleasure of avoiding RYR.
Yes, I too could drive another 1 hour down the Autobahn to avoid Ryanair, however, the cheapest alternative fares are normally well over double the price (even including all the so-called optional charges) and more often than not 4 or five times the price.
Recent examples for 3 of us on comparable routes were FR- 200 eur, BA- 750, KLM- 1200.
Actually, not all that comparable- FR are direct, the other 2 via one of the London airports or Amsterdam.
