One needs to exercise some care before putting fingers to keyboard in a public forum like this, since your remarks are public and archived for posterity (email me privately if you want details of another scary story in this vein about people who, by dint of who they are, should have known better and who ended up getting tangled with the DPA after posting on a public forum and regretting it...)
As for the European copyright stuff, yes, scary. I suspect that not many people realise the possible impact of this. Forewarned is forarmed, as they say.
As to the guys in the the Tower: they do a fantastic job. It's their system, and they have absolute discretion in the way it runs. Once we've agreed to the terms and conditions, that's it. The T&Cs give the sysadmins the absolute right to operate the system they way they want to, and that will include doing whatever is necessary to ensure it
continues to operate.
