One can of course argue that undoing a DVD code is just removing a civil un-liberty that is illegal in some countries.
The late compaq, when challenged that the DVD code was a removal of cilil liberty on a laptop that a user used for the cause that it was sold for (travelling the globe), refused to remove the code themselves but provided an immediate link to the softer to so do, so as to avoid a 'class action'. American Law !!!!
