What you propose re Y seats/J class food is exactly what's been happening worldwide. It's called "premium economy" and it appears to be a winner where it's operating.

You are right QF for the moment have it arse backwards in regard to the "premium" economy pax.
However I for one am prepared to put it down to the enormous pressure under which they have been working consolidating their position and just keeping the whole system upright, with the exit of AN.
That "grace" period is just about up and it must be time to sit back quietly and as Tevye says "review the situation".
