Jetstar working conditions
On a recent JQ flight from DPS to MEL the pilots apologised on the PA for the delayed departure as they'd had a slow flight up to DPS due headwinds. There were only two pilots mentioned on the intro, a Capt/ F/O crew. I made a few quick calculations.
After a late afternoon sign on, they have a duty time of close to 14 hours, back of the clock, with flight time totals around, say, 11 hours give or take. I assume a two man crew from the PA introduction.
How do these poor buggers stay awake on the way back.Obviously this legal. Secondly, how much delay can they accept for such things as weather, ATC or ground handling delays, before going "out of hours."
