I fly three times a year to/from Muscat and when asking some travel agents in my home town (Kidderminster) for flight times and prices I have to specify BHX otherwise they offer MAN or LHR first even though they are aware that EK serve Brum!
Me too-but the EK connection is awful -arriving in MCT at 03.45 and it is more expensive, generally, than daylight flights changing at BAH with GF.
My ideal ( other than flying out from BHX) would be a day flight without plane change both ways.
Perhaps Oman Air and BA could do code exchange or maybe, as Oman Air are looking to open up new routes with their new A330's thay should look at BHX!
