This topic has been covered many times over the years.

A couple of things.
LASORs is your friend.
Read it through very thoroughly. Most of the answers about how to convert are in there.

To save costs etc, I would suggest Bristol Ground School for the theory. You can do a lot of the study in Oz before shifting over. This will save you a fortune in living costs.

While you're there, ask around for flight training providers. My friends went to PAT and said that they were pretty good. There are others around too.

The GA we know and love in Oz is pretty much non existent here in the UK/Europe. However, there is instructing, parachute operations and glider towing.

The industry at the moment is in a bit of a slump. A couple of airlines have already gone broke throwing a lot of experienced pilots onto the market. The low houred guys are finding it tough to get a job at the moment.
There are jobs out there but you have to look. (Not unlike packing your car and heading NW)

It'll be probably 2011 before any significant recruitment takes place.

Good luck
