If you remove the SD card from the unit, do you loose the option to start the FlyMap software?
If so, then something on the SD card starts the software.
Try installing the 30 day free trial of PFMS from the website using the SD card method (not activesync)

Do this in a blank SD card, not on the one with FlyMap already on it or you may loose your flymap software!
If this works, then your unit is certainly not locked, and you should be able to get other software to run on it.
