If I was to send that on to one in particular of my Grunt ex-colleagues, he'd almost certainly take it at face value and believe it to be totally genuine. Every word of it. (In all matters to do with the Air force, he had a very successful irony bypass operation many years ago.)

(pre-empting the next post from someone saying: "Well, it is, isn't it?")

Back in my day, (a long time ago now), it wasn't all that unusual to find the odd enlisted man new to the unit who'd spent his whole service life in a HQ or an AD with attitudes not far removed from the above. After a couple of weeks living in a tented camp away from the dears at HQ, in all cases that I recall, a total change would come over them as they began to feel part of the unit, and the previously Bolshie troublemaker became very much a hardworking part of the team.

Perhaps there's a lesson there for the architects of the modern so-called efficiencies that destroyed small unit servicing of aircraft and moved everything to remote major depots?
