I think you'll find out it was known about c.9 months ago, not just 3 weeks ago.
That is not to say I agree - as a result of these changes, if you retire from BA after 15/25 years, you will only get 15/25 years of concessions on your own and other airlines. Yet, employees from other airlines with maybe 5 years service will get lifetime entitlements with BA under their agreements.
