Wait until the recession/depression is over. Firstly, no one wants a change during crisis unless the person is clearly bad - and the main board have some reasons to be happy with him.
Secondly, few would want to take on a big company in a recession/depression as you have no spare cash or room for manoeuvre. He's safe.
