Presumably not as a German resident in Germany. There are other countries such as Belgium where you are required to carry an ID but not in Germany. You might be taken to a police station in order to have your identity established, or you may be asked to present yourself at a police station with your ID card, but you are not required to carry an identity document with you at all times. Some of the Länder explicitly state this. See for example
