I recall the 717s holding pattern managment was not that accurate, and that it did not cope well with anti ice on in "PROF" on descent.

No problems there. Provided that you didn't want it to make a 5 minute pattern at FL350 with 150kts of crosswind. Basic aerodynamics dictates that it cannot be done by anything doing a reasonable speed. If EAI On is toggled PRIOR to TOPD, no problem either. I suspect that your A380 couldn't do a pattern any tigher than a 717, and if it
can cope with late notice EAIon, then it's carrying too much power in the Off case. Poor airconditioning system?!
