Thanks Evanb for explaining I did not remember, was just something in the back of my head. Then all it was back then, is that Lufthansa voiced interest but had no options for the reasons you explained - that is probably why it did not happen
Looks like they want to get their hands on pretty much anything they can get for a good price.
