As a matter of interest when I was a bit younger and living in Western Queensland we did call it QUANTAS and we took it to stand for Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Services Pty Ltd as we saw painted on the signs at Charleville and Cloncurry and other places
I think it was in the late 1950's that some lucky painting contractor got to go around and paint QANTAS on everything .....
