Post Use of Oxygen mask on flight deck

Having just done my TRUCE - or Emergency Training (or whatever it's called these days) on the Sim I could do with a bit of help to clear something up.

What is there general consensus on use of O2 masks on the FD after, say, a smoke in the cockpit or emergency decompression type scenario?

If any smoke was cleared and you had windows open below FL100 (presuming this is standard practice - is it?) would masks still be used as a precaution until you were on the ground - even if all appeared to be well again?

Or would you discard the Darth Vader effects box as soon as is medically or physically possible?

Also, like I say, what are your SOP's regarding such incidents?

Any help greatly appreciated
