One of the reasons for my interest, apart from my 37 years in aviation, is me and my mate used to cycle to Southend Airport early sixties from Leigh On Sea, threw the bikes in the grass next to the church at the end of the runway and sat all day plane spotting. I seem to recall there was also a bit of a public access boneyard inside the airport perimeter with the wrecks of old Vikings, Proctors, DC propliners, Bristol Freighters and the like, all mixed in with the stink of rotting canvas and aluminium - oh great days.
