Oil is raising because we are getting close to (according some experts) peak production ie we are unable to "produce" (pump out of the ground) more oil per day then we are doing at the moment. Some sources are talking about reaching peak production in 2012, some claim its 2040. Problem is, we don't really know how big the oil reserves are in the OPEC countries as the do not allow the rest of the world access to check it, plus that it's not a science written in stone....ie it's difficult to make accurate estimations.
Another problem, maybe a more of a "here and now problem" is that we have already reached the maximum output of processed oil. That means, at the moment we have raw (crude) oil but are not able to process it into the different types of fuel that we use every day.

There is a lot of "estimating", "according to certain sources" etc etc in this business. It's all depending on who authored the article you are reading....

As far as your choice of career. Take a GOOD read around these forums and then try to get in touch with people you trust, who are in the business already...THEN, and first then, you can take a solid decision on what to do.

My advice? Spend your money on a broad university degree that will give you the widest choice of career. Once you have found "your" career path. Get further qualification to push yourself further.

Good luck!
