Post Flying without insurance?

On the thread "Capt. settles"
http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=017020 comment is made about incorrectly interpreting the 900hr limit as airborne time. The implication of this is that pilots exceeded the legal 900hr., 12month limit on Block time.

I have always understood that knowing extending the FTL’s beyond the legal maximum invalidates the insurance cover of an airline. Is this correct and what are the implications?
