"exploring the monster" (can't remember who it's by) about the Sierra wave project in America in the 1950's. Using gliders they explored mountain lee wave to incredible heights (45,000 feet sticks in the mind). Absolutely fascinating especially about the sheer power of the wind... the story of a P-38 lightning soaring in wave and gaining height is amazing.

Also "A glider pilot bold" by Wally Kahn; mad gliding stories from the early days. The transportaition of a dead whale in a glider trailer being one of the more surreal...

The latter can be bought from shops like transair; not seen the former, but both can be got from the British Gliding Association's online sales bit of their web site; www.gliding.co.uk
