Longreach is nowhere near the Moorabbin-Maroochydore route. It will take about the same amount of time from Moorabbin to Longreach as it would from Moorabbin to Maroochydore, and then you've got another five or six hundred miles from Longreach back to Maroochy.
But its a GREAT museum!
