Ah yes good point Mrs R, if you live near a gateway like Luton and live over two hours away and thats where the aircraft is you could have a problem because you are not going to get the 1 hour to check in. There is no way round that one i'm afraid, i have only picked a jet up on day one in Manchester a couple of times so again the probablities are fairly low.
I'm abit bored this afternoon so i've been exercising the old grey matter and i reckon that the worst place to live for a Northern based Netjets Pilot is a line between Carlisle and Newcastle basically along the A69 towards Hexham then curving just to the North of Newcastle. Of course thats not to say you couldn't live there, Netjets have guys based in Cornwall with Heathrow gateways who travel the night before, just puts your costs up abit. A cost which you would be able to claim on you annual tax return though.
I have NEVER seen a standby starting earlier than 4z, and even if they called you at 4z you would be looking at the 0700 departures to London AMS or CDG in which case you'd still make it easily. You just need your kit ready, be able to go and check in online incase it gets tight.
