At Spicejet, the time off is indeed UNPAID. That may have been the reason why many folks have gone elsewhere perhaps, where they had no income loss when they were off. Spicejet will pay you a travel allowance during the time off though. What you miss out in pay you gain in flexibility, friendly environment, and a small family type atmosphere. The Indian Captains here are very nice, professional and I have never met anyone who was not courteous.

What some expats do is fly 100-120 hrs a month for the 2 odd months they are here, and then are able to coast on their time off b/c of 80 hrs on overtime pay made earlier. Pay is for 80 hr, after that it is considered overtime.

We work pretty hard here, compared to AIX, IA or some other carriers. Right now you can be based in DEL, BOM, MAA, HYD. I think if you wanted to be based elsewhere, where the company operates, they might oblige.

Spicejet is HIRING expat Capts who have quality PIC time on other jet aircraft or variant of the B737. We have former B-747-400/B-777/B757/767/727/737-200 skippers working for us. Most are age 60 plus although we have a bunch who are younger. If you have never flown the NG, you get 40 hrs in the RHS, and 60 hrs in the LHS before you are released. Spicejet has been picking up the cost of th NG endorsement for "qualified" applicants.
For some they pay the costs, but deduct them over a time period.
