Sure these airplanes are old, but I can not think of a more successful design than the DC3.
A couple of others come to mind.
Piston: Douglas DC-6B
Turbine: Fokker F.27 (and Fairchild FH227)
Having flown all four types, they certainly do the job for which they were designed...very economically.
