Im feeling sebby (apologies if that isnt your screen name!) would be very able to field this question!
From my experience however, Longhaul recruits alot more frequently than shorthaul. Sheer logistics, and size of the longhaul base compared to shorthaul base. Also with QF beefing up numbers as they are lately in preparation for the new longhaul aircraft, which rumour has it, will be predominatly crewed with nz labour...

As for pay/conditions, not my forte, however i feel obliged to comment (read, gossip). Pay at longhaul appears slightly more, while conditions at shorthaul appear slightly better. Mind you QF conditions and pay are probably the best available in New Zealand if your thinking of
entering the industry.
