What is going to happen to the NA Pax F/O's when the B744's are leaving and the 777 comes in and replaces the flying? Will they have to go back to flying freighter rosters again or will they be trained on the B777? If you look on the B777 news letter it's looks like they are planning on staffing the B777 with new joiners. That would only cost them one training event vs two.
Fleet Numbers
To give you some idea about the fleet expansion here are a few figures for the coming year, based on today’s plan.- Fifty new second officers with seven of them being cadets. These first induction cadets on the fleet start to join in February.
- Thirty-three new commands with the bulk of candidates coming off the B744.
- Five Toronto based Airbus Captains starting their conversions in March.
- Thirty-two Vancouver based B744 Captains and First Officers starting their courses in July.
- Thirty-six JFO upgrades with the bulk coming from the B744.
- Twenty direct entry First Officers who will be based in Toronto and Los Angeles.
The Permanent Basings Policy 2006 (6.3) states "There will be no direct recruitment of officers by any basing company into any base area"
