You are correct if you are on reserve and you are not obligated to answer your phone before you reserve starts. Some days you will receive many calls before reserve.
CC will call pilots to work on a G day even when someone is on reserve. This way they can maintain the reserve coverage when it starts to get low.
They have been known to change rosters to another flight (with lower hours) citing roster disruption and using G day call outs to do the high hour pairing, thereby reducing someone’s EFP.
Yes, I know they are not allowed to do this, but it’s roster disruption.
