Newcastle used to have a fair sized ski charter programme, with weekend services to GVA, SZG, INN, CMF, TRN, PDV, LYS and GNB. However currently the charter operators, usually TUI, Crystal, Inghams and Balkan only serve SZG, INN, GVA, TRN and PDV - having stopped GNB, LYS and CMF. The reason I suspect flights have been dropped from the charter programme is that low cost carriers are now beginning services to these places during the winter, so passengers now have a choice to build their own package and obviously the charters were loosing the competition. I suspect it wn't be long until we see LS or EZY doing SZG etc in order to try and get some custom away from the charters.
Having said that the charters always seem pretty full and NCL still has a fair choice of destinations, but I agree it would be nice to see more, judging by the success of current ski orientated destinations, the Geordies are quite fond of a bit of piste action!!!
