As mentioned above with your hours I'd almost be inclined to stick it out and see what comes up early next year. Do you have an Oz licence?? There's seems to be strong suspicions around the traps that Oz and some NZ airlines will ramp up recruitment and close to 2000TT should get you a look in for an interview. Just a thought...

Yes you are quite correct re 62cents/km which generally equates to around $100 for return drive around the central north island e.g. HN-ROT- HN... Yet to do one of those lucrative Gisborne drives though.
