Platypus 54 is dead on.
Am a F/O on B 777 and have been through the training schedule since Jan. Starting with Alteon in Singapore, it took all of 2 months to do it. Then we were rested for 3 months. Then sent to New Zealand end May to fly online with them. Returned in early August but most are still not flying line. Why? Because it takes DGCA and the company over 2 months to get licences endorsed. Then TREs are being used mostly on revenue flights and not available for checks. Its painfully slow. So a waiting game is on.
Have Indian Capts operating as F/Os so that their mandatory hrs for command on type are fulfilled. In the meanwhile Indian F/Os fiddle their thumbs and even after coming online, 2 flts a month to & fro LHR or BRU is the max if one is lucky.
Sad but true.
