This smoke screen Huey is interesting.
I never heard about it before.
How is the smoke machine called? I would like do do some research for more detailed pictures.
not inteding to hijack the 'round the world thread for book referals, but:
I recall reading a book, titled 'Permission to kill', about a Huey door gunner on a smoke ship called 'Pollution-1'.
I also wasn't aware of them until reading the book.
(I was only just learning to walk back then).
It is a fictitious novel based loosely on real people & true events but is a collage of many individuals situations that were not experienced by any one person alone (at least the author acknowledges it rather than taking credit for others actions) all collaged into the experience of the main character who is aptly named for his role.
it is a good read, funny, tragic, exciting, terrifying.
it does however go into detail the operation of the smoke ship & its role,
as well as some of the 'mods' that they make to increase the likelihood of their survival/extend the application of thier 'utility' helicopter.
definitely worth a look-see
the only link I found to it is indicated below, I received the book as a loaner many years ago, wouldn't mind being able to pick it up again for a glance
