I too am with the "not" signing it. You want to know why?
Well ask yourselves this. why SHOULD the government help people chase a vocation?
Is there a shortage of new pilots? No.
Is there a projected shortage? no.
Is it a critical career requiring academic support (like a medical degree)? No.
The bottom line on all of this, is that this is essentially saying "it's expensive and and I don't want to have to save for it - I WANT IT NOW!". Well, the truth is, if you want this it's up to YOU to go and get it. Not up to anyone else to pay for it. If the government start paying for pilot training, then what about other vocational? direct comaprisons like bus driver, boat pilot, HGV training are obvious, but you want to become a project manager, a tree surgeon...all of these things require funding...and it's either by yourself or by a sponsoring company.
If you want to do something about this - (try and) get the ariline companies to resume sponsorship - at least this way, it will come down to who the airlines want, rather than a couple of thousand more fATPLs with no real chance of a job...
