Fed Ex plans on basing crews in Europe and Asia, but it has not been approved by the unions yet. They are in negotiations now and will be approved once several issues are addressed. Then a bid will go out to the union. The crews will fly out of Paris but will probably live in Zurich. All the aircraft are US registered and in order to fly them you must have an FAA ATP (and FE writtens) certificate. Since Fed Ex is an ALPA union carrier, any European pilot hired would be initially based in Memphis, the junior base and would therefore have to have an American green card prior to being hired. He would then be able to bid out to Europe based on seniority, and given his very junior status probably would not get it for quite a long time. Ditto for Asia.
It isn't as simple as you might think and has nothing to do with nationality. If you meet the Fed Ex hiring requriements (you can get them on line at Fed Ex.com) you are most certainly invited to apply. It isn't easy but can be done.Working for Fed Ex is great and as they said in basic indoc "Welcome to the last flying job you will ever have". They mean it. Great company and good luck!
