SPIC is student Pilot In Command. Its a rubbish JAA development. What it mean in practice is that they got rid of a load of solo hours from course requirements and instead an instructor sits through a flight without saying or doing anything unless dissaster looms in which case he takes over and the flight becomes dual.
Of course what actually happens is the flight is indistinguishable from a dual trip and all you've done is reduce the actual amount of solo solo - I'm the only one here and need to make a decision - solo time that Cadets have. As little as 25 hours airborne solo time in some cases is all that required to hold a JAA CPL/IR Frzn ATPL.
