Hi Stephen,
When I joined 7 years ago, proof of enrolment in a Red Cross/St John comprehensive first aid course was all that was required at the interview.
In other words, bringing along a letter from Red Cross/St Johns saying I was enrolled in a first aid course was good enough, as long as I completed it before training.
You might want to check and see if this is still the case.
