Air New Zealand- LHR Base

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if you could all help me out. I recieved a call yesterday out of the blue asking if I would like a telephone interview with Air New Zealand (applied last July)

When I applied last time LHR base was just doing the LHR- LAX trips- is this still the case or do they do some far east routes as well now (Thailand, Singapore)

What are the current pay and conditions like at Air New Zealand. I currently work for a charter airline and my take home pay vaires between £1200- £1500 depending on how my rosters are (there have been some issues with rostering though this season with many people only having 3 or 4 flights a month!!! all short haul)

As a company what are they like to work for?

Any help would be appreciated- thank you

Routes

LAX (2 Night's)
HKG(2 Night's)

Aircraft used : 747-400's and 777's

Read the website and Good Luck !!

Money is split into 3 types for example :
Your training pay is £7500 per annum
and your probation pay is £8500 per annum and once you complete your probation your pay is 10500 . I might be out by £50 on each example but just to give you some idea . And you also get your allowances down route cash in hand $$ .

Hope this Helps

Where is the training done, out of curiosity?

I believe some NZ LHR crew were recently in Auckland doing 777 conversion...

Thanks Location it did help.

With the allowances do you know how much they are? And does anyone know the trip patterns at all?

I have read the website again and it seems like a good company to work for. Do they get benefits on a par with virgin/ BA etc..

Sorry to ask so many questions- i just keep thinking of more things that I cant find.

I just got an email from them three days ago saying they weren't recruiting, but they would keep my application on file.

Then, to my surprise, I got a phone call on Friday for a phon interview. i declined, as I have my wings ceremony on Tueday for Virgin.

Good luck to all, NZ is a fab airline, and the new b777 is stunning!

Well done on Virgin- I got a position with them but got permanent at my charter airline so I turned it down and have regretted it ever since!!

What info did you get about Air NZ when you were looking into them?

Hi NZ,

Do some of your crew in aukland get to come over to LHR to work out of london?

Also this is another ask for any LHR based Air NZ crew to possibly give out some information about rosters/ pay/ trips/ any ad hoc flights etc

Any replies would be great

Hi warwicks!
My telephone interview is also at 1:55 pm (in my country 2:55 pm), that`s strange, that we have it at the same time! She told me it will last around 15 to 20 minutes.
Yes, I am currently working as a flight attendant for a small German airline, but just short-haul flights. What about you?

I currently work for a charter airline in the UK and do long haul and short haul routes.

I am nervous about the phone interview but just going to go with the flow. There doesnt seem to be many people on here that work for them so if i am sucessful at the phone interview stage will ask them questions about pay/conditions etc

Will they let you know by e-mail if you passed the phone interview or not?

I just finished the telephone interview, they called me earlier than I expected, because they said a free spot just opened.
Wow, I can`t believe that I finished it, I hope it went well.

Here are some of the questions they asked me:
- Why would you like to work for Air NZ?
- Why do you want to leave your present employer?
- What do you know about New Zealand?
- What do you know about Air NZ?
- What are the responsibilities of your current job?
- Did you ever have an angry passenger on board? What did you do?
- Did you ever have a problem (of any kind) on board? Tell me about it?
- Did you ever have a situation where you helped out your colleague without her asking you?
- Tell me about a situation where you provided excellent service!
- Tell me about a situation where you provided poor service.

That`s pretty much it. The telephone interview lastet 20 minutes.
Good luck to all who still have to do it!

I have just finished my telephone interview and they called me earlier than they said they would.

The questions that Aliyyah has put on here are the questions that they asked me (thank you for posting them as they helped me immensely)

They are very friendly on the telephone but they dont seem to give too much away and I have been told that I will be contacted within the next few days to let me know if I am sucessful.

They are not recruiting many people so they have told me that competition is fierce.

good luck everyone

aliyyah- how did they leave things with you?

Hi warwicks,
great to hear that you also finished your phone interview. It is strange though that they also called you earlier, they called me about 3 hours earlier than planned! Maybe they do that with everybody to see how flexible you are?
The lady was nice to me too, but she didn`t really say that much to my answers. She didn`t let anything show. Once I finsihed giving her the answer, there was always this silence. I think she took some notes during this time, but to me it felt odd. So I really can`t say if I am successful or not. And also she didn`t let me ask any questions, I mean it`s not such a big deal, because if I passed the phone interview I can still ask questions at the Assessment Centre.
At the end she told me, that I will get an e-mail soon. She also said that there will be an Assessment around March 12.
We will see what happens...
